CONTROVERSIAL plans for a 23-bedroom hotel and country club in Ramsbottom have resurfaced.
The development has been proposed for land off Ripon Hall Avenue and Haigh Hall Close, on the Whittingham Drive estate in Ramsbottom.
A planning application, which has been lodged with Bury Council, also includes leisure facilities, a restaurant and bar, three function rooms and car parking.
Similar proposals for the site were submitted last year, but were withdrawn months later after being met with more than 500 objections from angry residents.
Local councillors also hit out at the proposals, which they said would be better suited to a derelict industrial area.
It was initally claimed that the plans were proposed on green belt land, however it has since been revealed the development would be built on ‘river valley’ land.
A design and access statement submitted alongside the latest application states that as well as two bridal suites, the hotel and country club's facilities would also include a swimming pool, gymnasium facilities and a children's play area.
The site is adjacent to the fields used by Brandlesholme Warriors JFC.
