THERE was a fantastic turn out as the beer festival returned to Radcliffe Cricket Club for the 14th annual year.

More than 150 people turned out to the two-day celebration of real ale and cider, food and music.

This year's festival featured a selection of 16 beers and five ciders, including drinks from Radcliffe's Brightside Brewing Company and Ramsbottom's Irwell Works Brewery, as well as a range of food options such as lasagne, potato pie and cheese toasties.

Club organisers have planned back-to-back weekend events at their Homer Street site as they gear up for their annual firework extravaganza this Saturday.

Club officer Cath Booth said: "Radcliffe Cricket Club's 14th annual beer festival was a great success, the Saturday being the most popular day with more than 100 people in attendance.

"We had to open up an extra bar upstairs selling our usual beverage options because we were so busy.

"It was great to welcome new customers and returning ones."

The event has proved to be very popular over the years, and Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, were no exception.

Favourite drinks this year seemed to be Costa del Salford, provided by Irwell Works Brewery, and Merry Legs' perry cider.

One customer who attended on Friday, John Smith, said: "I really enjoyed the evening. The beer was good and it was nice to catch up with old friends."

Radcliffe Cricket Club has extended its thanks to local businesses and individuals who sponsored the beer festival.

One of the organisers, Jackie Fuller, said: "We would like to thank everyone for their sponsorship, custom and support."

Cath said: "Thank you also to Jackie Fuller, Dave Garner and Keith Beck for their hard work organising the event and to everyone that volunteered behind the bar and in the kitchen.

"We look forward to seeing you next year for the 15th annual beer festival."

The beer festival and this weekend's upcoming firework display are helping to raise vital funds for the club after it feel victim to three burglaries over the summer.

Visitors to the firework display this Saturday will also be able to enjoy a barbecue and browse a variety of stalls.

Gates for the display open at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased on the door, at £4 for adults and £2 for children. A £10 family ticket is also available.
