COMMUNITIES across the north of the borough came together over the weekend to celebrate the planting of five new trees which will form part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.
The trees, donated to Bury North James Frith MP by the Wildlife Trust, are part of a new network of forest conservation and tree planting initiatives across all 53 countries of the Commonwealth.
They mark Her Majesty The Queen’s service to the Commonwealth, while also conserving trees and forests for future generations.
The trees were planted in locations across the constituency with the support of community groups across Bury – New Springs Community Project in Redvales, The Green Café and Ambition for Moorside in Clarence Park, Brandlesholme Residents Association in Elton, The Enterprise Centre in Tottington and Friends of Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom.
Mr Frith said: “Trees are such an important part of our ecosystem. In addition to being beautiful to look at, they also help to keep our air clean and provide food and homes for a variety of wildlife.
"I hope these trees will grow and thrive and be cherished by the communities in which they are placed.”
