A SUPERMARKET was forced to close after being hit by a power cut on Saturday morning.
Shoppers arriving at Tesco, in Woodfields Retail Park, were turned away due to the blackout, which was caused by an issue at a nearby substation.
Bosses say the store and the adjacent petrol station were without electricity for about four hours.
It eventually reopened at 2.30pm, however, shoppers reported that they were unable to buy certain products from the store's fresh section throughout the day.
A Tesco spokesperson refused to reveal how much stock had to be thrown out, but added: “An issue at a substation caused power to fail at our Bury store.
"The store was without electricity for about four hours on Saturday morning and closed during this time.
“Electricity North West attended and fixed the problem and we were able to reopen the store at 2.30pm.”
