Shortly afterwards there was a "loud banging" said the man, who did not wish to be identified.

He said: "There was about three [men] at that point and one was putting his boot into the bollard and trying to kick it down.

"They ended up lying on top of it."

He added: "They had obviously been out on the lash."

More joined the group and continued to try and destroy the illuminated, plastic bollard.

The witness said: "They were being rowdy and were taking turns to boot it over and trying different styles of kicks."

One of the men urinated in the street.

A woman returning from a night shift parked her car nearby and spoke to the men the witness said.

He said: "She shouted at them but they started being abusive to her then. I'm not sure what she said next or if she contacted police but they decided to move across the road and up to Parklands [estate]."

The witness said he was "annoyed" and "disappointed" by the men's behaviour, saying the area is normally quiet and he has not seen much anti social behaviour in the nine months he has been living there.

He said: "I was dumbfounded as to what the hell they thought they were doing and shocked they thought it was okay to actually do that."

The images of the vandalism have been shared on social media and the witness says he has contacted the police about the incident.

If you have any information regarding the incident the police can be contacted by calling 101.
