A MAN has been jailed after threatening a member of staff at a housing association and assaulting two police officers.

Andrew Chadfield, from Bury, has been sentenced to 22 weeks in prison for assaulting police officers while they were investigating reports of malicious phone calls.

Chadfield, aged 34 of Hillyard Street, Elton, was also handed a restraining order.

The threats began when Six Town Housing officers realised that Chadfield had been staying without permission in a property that they manage on behalf of Bury Council.

Chadfield was aggressive and violent towards contractors and staff, who were trying to carry out improvement works.

A spokesman for Six Town Housing said: "Chadfield made a phone call to a member of staff, threatening violence.

"We will not tolerate our staff being threatened or intimidated in any way, so worked with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to provide additional evidence required for the conviction and restraining order."

The restraining order prevents Chadfield from contacting the member of staff or setting foot in Warwick Street or Sherbourne Court for two years. Any breach could result in further penalties.

Any sightings of Chadfield in the area should be reported to police, as this will be a breach of the court order and is in the interest of public safety.

Sergeant Derek Quinn from GMP's Bury borough, said: "On Saturday, September 8, 2018, police attended a property in Hillyard Street, Bury, following reports of malicious calls having been made.

"Three police officers attended and while at the property, two officers were assaulted by Chadfield.

"This behaviour will not be tolerated. Police officers, like everyone else, have a job to do, and they shouldn’t have to face this level of violence when they are trying to keep everyone safe and deal with all manner of incidents.

"I would like to thank our partners at Six Town Housing for their support during this investigation.

"Thankfully, Chadfield can no longer be a menace to the community."
