A SCHOOLGIRL has helped to raise £500 after donating her hair to a charity that makes real hair wigs for children with cancer.

Freya Collins, aged 11, had nine inches of her hair cut off last Sunday in support of The Little Princess Trust.

The Elton High School pupil said she "feels sad for children who don’t have any hair” and wanted to help those who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Gillian Collins, Freya’s mum said: "Freya is a very caring little girl. I’m so proud of what she has achieved.

“I could not believe it when she first mentioned having her hair cut off.

"I was devastated and was saying not to go ahead with it but when we thought about it, we realised how worthwhile it would be to give her hair to a good cause.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and support we’ve received through sponsorship.”

Friends and family gathered at Freya's home in Keld Close, Woolfold, to show their support last weekend.

In attendance was Freya's 16-year-old cousin Georgia Wardle, who also donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust a couple of years ago.

Shortly afterwards, their grandmother, who was very proud of her generosity, passed away.

Ms Collins said: "My mum was really proud of Georgia so Freya is hoping that grandma is watching as she follows in her cousin's footsteps and will be proud of her too."
