Road closed following accident on A66
A BMW crashed into the M66 central reservation this afternoon, causing heavy delays.
The incident occurred at about 1.50pm, and police were quickly called to the scene, close to junction 1 for Ramsbottom.
The crash caused long delays towards Manchester, with queues stretching over a mile, although cars appear to be moving now.
Recovery vehicles have now removed the BMW from the scene and cleared the motorway.
Local bus firm The Burnley Bus Company sent out a Tweet which read: "Hi everyone, drivers reporting an issue on the M66 near junction 1 towards Manchester. Not sure what it is but traffic down to one lane."
