RESIDENTS have had to be rehomed across Bury after a nursing home closed down.

The owner of Ainsworth Nursing Home took the decision to shut the premises, resulting in the relocation of 24 residents.

Director Dr Shanu Subbiah, who previously worked at Townside Primary Care Centre, has notified both Bury Council and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) of the site's impeding closure.

A spokeswoman for Bury Council said: "The decision to close was the owners. The council has supported the owner in managing the closure over a period of weeks. "Residents have been moved to various homes throughout the borough in consultation with them, their families or their advocates or appointees."

In May 2015, the home which provided nursing and residential care for up to 33 people was placed in 'special measures'.

Then in August 2016, the CQC gave it an 'inadequate' rating for the third time in less than two years, after a series of new and continued regulation breaches were discovered.

The site was given a 'requires improvement' rating in its 2017 report after previously being placed in special measures.

Inspectors from the CQC visited the home in Knowsley Road and found that some progress had been made to previous breaches in regulations.
