AN appeal has been made for witnesses to come forward after a dog was killed during a hit and run incident in Farnworth.

A man and his dog had been walking in Rawson Street at the junction with Moss Street when the collision occurred.

Police are looking for the driver of the dark-coloured hatchback who made off after initially stopping.

Officers believe the vehicle will be damaged.

Greater Manchester Police's traffic officers tweeted: "At 5.45pm on Thursday, November 2018. a collision occurred in Rawson Street at the junction with Moss Street, in Farnworth.

"A dark-coloured hatchback collided with a pedestrian and his dog. Sadly the dog didn't survive its injuries.

"The driver made off after initially stopping. We believe the vehicle will be damaged.

"If anyone witnessed the collision or has seen a car in the area with similar damage please contact us."

The driver was described as a black male, of stocky build, aged between 25 and 35. The car is believed to have a damaged driver wing mirror.
