YOUNG brick builders came face to face with their favourite LEGO characters over the weekend.

Families had the chance to meet construction worker Emmet, master builder Lucy, who is usually referred to as Wyldstyle, and Sweet Mayhem.

The crew were stationed at Bolton's Market Place between 10am and 6pm on Saturday to promote The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.

Sweet Mayhem is set to be the main antagonist in the upcoming film.

LEGO fan Georgie Paris said: "I have seen sneak peeks of the film.

"I love LEGO building and particularly like the LEGO Harry Potter series and Ninjago."

The nine-year-old from Swinton has asked for the Hogwarts Castle‎ LEGO set for Christmas.

Step-mum Suzanne Stealey said: "Georgie was excited when he saw the characters.

"We flipped a coin to decide whether we went shopping in Manchester or Bolton. I think he is happy he came to Bolton now."

A host of activities were planned at The LEGO Movie 2 stand outside Debenhams, and visitors had the chance to watch the movie trailer.

The sequel reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in a bid to save their beloved city. The citizens are facing a huge new threat as LEGO invaders from outer space try to wreck everything faster than they can rebuild.

Production manager Jared Pepall said: "The reaction from shoppers has been surprise and delight as always.

"The kids come running up. The great thing with the little ones is that they think they are real so there are lots of hugs and high fives."

Fans had the chance to meet and greet the characters whose costumes had been made in LA, pose for photos and find out more about the film, which is due to be shown at The Light, Bolton, in February.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, centre manager at Market Place, previously said: "We’re sure that the appearance of characters from The LEGO Movie 2 will be a huge attraction for Bolton families in the run up to Christmas and we’re thrilled that they’ve chosen Market Place to visit."
