STUDENTS from Bury College have been getting board with the spirit of the season by helping out at the East Lancashire Railway's Santa Specials.

The ever popular Christmas services bring a flurry of festive magic to the heritage railway, including a visit and gift from Father Christmas.

In the run up to Christmas Eve the Travel and Tourism students will take on the role of Santa's helpers ensuring that the services run without a hitch and that visitors have a magical time.

Their efforts will also go towards the work experience element of their qualification.

The collaboration follows the most recent visit of students to the railway last month, when they were invited behind the scenes at the ELR for an insight into the running of one of the region's top visitors attractions.

Mike Kelly, Chairman at the ELR said: “We’ve worked with Bury College for the past few years and are very proud of our relationship. It’s beneficial to the ELR, Bury College and the students themselves to be able to offer work experience opportunities at one of our busiest events of the year."
