EMERGENCY services were called after a driver crashed into a roadside barrier in Manchester Road.
The incident happened at Blackford Bridge, outside the Indigo Restaurant, at around 2.30pm.
North West Ambulance Service reported that the driver, a woman in her 50s, was taken ill at the wheel before colliding with the barrier.
Fire crews however were unable to open the woman's car door pinned shut by the barrier, so were forced to cut the barrier to free her.
She was then taken to Fairfield Hospital by ambulance.
The crash lead to tailbacks and traffic was diverted at Dumers Lane and Hollins Brow while fire crews and police cleared the car.
All roads are now reopened.
