A VEHICLE collided with a traffic light near the town hall last night.

The road traffic collision at the end of Manchester Road involved one vehicle only.

Fire crews were called to the incident at 11.44pm but the driver successful extracted himself from the car by the time they arrived.

Paramedics treated him at the scene but he was not taken to hospital.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time when it crashed into the traffic light opposite Bury Town Hall.

Bury Community Fire Station watch manager Rick Taylor said: "All we did is make the vehicle safe and request the local highway authority make safe the traffic light."

The traffic light was still damaged today causing some confusion for motorists.

As the town hall is closed over the Christmas period, it is unclear when the light will be fixed.
