WINNERS of The Bury Times' Design a Christmas Card competition have been announced.

Ameilia Heenan, six, and Hebe Smith Prince, eight, were crowned as the best of the bunch.

The champions' designs will be printed and sent to family and friends, they also each received a toy bundle from The Entertainer and a chocolate Santa from Slattery's.

Ameilia is from Brandlesholme in Bury and goes to Old Hall Primary School.

She drew a snowy cat, complete with antlers and shiny snowflakes.

Hebe, from Chantler's Primary, was very excited to hear she had won the contest.

Art runs in the family for Hebe, her mum was also a winner of the competition in 1982 and won felt tip pens.

She drew Santa in the sky, she said: "Santa has to be serious because his job is serious."

The competition was open to schools across Bury, with two age categories, four to seven and eight to 11.

Designs were shortlisted by judges and put to a readers' vote.
