THERE were major delays on the M61 following a two-vehicle crash.
Two of three lanes were shut off on the northbound carriageway between Junction 6 for Horwich and Junction 8 for Chorley.
Traffic officers and an ambulance were called to the scene.
Drivers experienced long delays after the collision at about 9pm. Traffic was held while emergency services worked at the scene.
All lanes have since been reopened.
North West Motorway Police tweeted at about 10.30pm: "Traffic has now been released. Two lanes of three remain closed on the #M61 northbound in Manchester between J6 near Bolton and J8 following a collision involving two cars.
"Our traffic officers are in attendance alongside North West Motorway Police. There are delays of 30 minutes on the approach."
