A DRIVER was stopped after allegedly speeding at 105mph through a 40mph zone.

Police stopped the vehicle in the A580 in Leigh yesterday morning after following the car between Greyhound Island to Atherleigh Way where the speed limit drops from 60mph down to 40mph.

In a tweet GMP Traffic wrote: “Vehicle stopped A580 in Leigh after being followed between Greyhound Island to Atherleigh Way. Speed limit here is a 60mph dropping to 40mph so clearly the vehicle in front travelling at 105mph will have some explaining to do at Court as no excuse given to the officer #fatal4.”

The incident was met by outrage on social media.

On Twitter user, @andyice83, said: “We really do need more traffic police out there, some people on the roads don’t give a dam because the chances of being cought [sic] are very small.”

@SamMobile1 tweeted: “@gmptraffic well done keep up the great work. So many people speed along that stretch. 105mph is a death wish though.”
