A MAN has been jailed for 16 weeks after admitting harassing a woman by making a large number of phone calls and sending her a letter over the Christmas period.

Manchester magistrates heard how John Nugent, aged 31, of Rydal Close, Bury, committed the offence between December 21 and 25.

Nugent, who has a record for similar offending, was ordered to pay an £115 victim surcharge and a restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim or going to Deyne Street, Salford.

A 14-year-old schoolboy has been sentenced to a youth rehabilitation order by Manchester magistrates after pleading guilty to attempting to rob a person of clothing in Bury on October 7.

The teenager also admitted having a knife in Bury town centre.

He was ordered to pay his victim £200 in compensation plus £300 towards prosecution costs and a an exclusion order was made banning the teenager from entering Bury town centre for three months except with a parent, to attend an appointment on travelling through on his way to school.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to possessing a baseball bat in Tottington Road, Bury and using or threatening violence on June 8.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court James Fenton, aged 24, of Goldfinch Drive, Bury, was also ordered to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £170 in costs and charges.

A MAN who failed to provide Manchester City Council with copies of waste disposal authority documents has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months by Manchester magistrates.

Ayo Olufunwa, aged 78, of Brookfield, Prestwich, had denied committing the offence on September 25 2017 but was convicted following a trial.

The court also ordered him to pay £1,037 in costs and charges.

A MAN has been electronically tagged after he admitted going to an address in Metcalfe Terrace, Bury in breach of a restraining order.

Manchester magistrates sentenced Sam Dewett, aged 33, of Bolton Road, Radcliffe, to an 8pm to 6am curfew for four weeks after he pleaded guilty to breaching the order on December 15, 17 and 28.

Dewett was also ordered to pay £170 in costs and charges.

A MAN who damaged a water fountain and door lock belonging to the NHS on November 24 has been sentenced to an electronically monitored 8pm to 7am curfew for six weeks.

At Manchester Magistrates' Court Gavin Andrews, aged 31, of Holbourne Avenue, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing the offence.

The court also ordered Andrews to pay the NHS £600 in compensation for the damage.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole clothing from a Bury store has been fined £20 by Manchester magistrates.
Damien Richardson, aged 50, of Spencer Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to taking a pair of jeans, valued at £45, from Superdry on December 23.
He was also ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge
At the time Richardson was in breach of a suspended prison sentence for possessing an offensive weapon.

A MAN who admitted causing a breach of the peace in Bury on December 22 has appeared before Manchester magistrates.
Jason Gallagher, aged 34, of Douglas Close, Whitefield, agreed to be bound over to keep the peace for six months or forfeit £50.
In a separate case Gary Morris, aged 46, of Pimlott Grove, Prestwich, admitted behaviour likely to cause a breach of the beach in Bury on December 23.
He agreed to be bound over in the sum of £100 to keep the peace for 12 months.

MAGISTRATES have jailed a man for 12 weeks after he breached a non-molestation order and went to an address in Fairfield Drive, Bury on January 2.

David Marsden, aged 48, of Powell Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to committing the offence and also admitted assaulting a woman.

Manchester magistrates were told that Marsden has previously shown a “flagrant disregard” for court orders.

In addition to the prison sentence he was ordered to pay an £115 victim surcharge and a restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim.

A MAN who failed to identify the driver of a Mercedes vehicle to police has been fined £900 by Manchester magistrates.

John Grundy, aged 54, of Elder Close, Tottington, had denied committing the offence but was convicted following a trial.

In addition to the fine, he was ordered to pay £145 in costs and charges and penalty points were added to his driving licence.
