ARE you struggling to get rid of your real Christmas tree and wanting to do so responsibly? Here is what you can do to make sure yours is recycled correctly.

Residents across the borough can pop their trees in their brown bins, which will then be collected by Bury Council.

You should remember to remove all decorations, lights, and the wooden base; then chop it up so it fits inside the bin with the lid closed.

Alternatively you can take it to any household waste recycling site in Greater Manchester.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “There’s so much that we could recycle over the festive period – from drinks cans and leftover food to cardboard packaging.

"Where better to start than with your real Christmas tree? It’ll be turned into compost, and help something else to grow.”
