A CARE home pulled out all the stops to ensure one woman had an extra special birthday.

Rachel Smith, a resident at Woodlands Atherton in Bolton, turned the grand age of 104 on Christmas Day.

Staff at the home, which provides dementia care, organised lived entertainment for the day and ordered Rachel a specially-made birthday cake.

Home manager Stacey Hope said: "It was a very special occasion. Rachel is a very pleasant and very well lady for 104.

"She is very chatty and she is a real people watcher — she loves to know what is going on.

"The team organised a party for her. There was lots of singing and dancing."
