SCENES for Coronation Street are due to be filmed at a Radcliffe church this coming week.

Stars from the ITV soap are expected to be filming at St Andrew's Church, in St Andrew's View on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Coronation Street — the longest running soap on British TV — would not confirm whether they will or won't be filming in the town.

A churchgoer said: "We have heard that Coronation Street will be filming and using the inside of the church next week.

"The space surrounding the church meant that it worked for the filming.

"It is just fantastic that we are having the church used for this purpose.

"We are excited to see St Andrew's on our screens in the near future."

While nearby St Mary's Church, in Prestwich, has been the location of many a Coronation Street wedding and funeral, this will be a first for Grade II listed St Andrew's.

The question is, will it be a christening, a wedding, or a funeral?

Coronation Street has recently introduced a new romance between Gemma Winter's brother Paul Foreman and Billy Mayhew.

And in recent episodes, the chemistry is still alive between Carla Conno and Peter Barlow, and Kate Connor and Rana Habeeb's relationship could be rekindled after the on-off couple shared a New Year's Eve kiss.

Has Coronation Street villain Duncan Radfield been killed? In Friday's episode Duncan was mowed down by a car after Tim Metcalfe tried to beat a confession out of him.

St Andrew's has recently undergone £17,000 worth of work, to redecorate the archway, install a new platform, remove asbestos and carry out repairs to the chancel.

Rev Joanna McKee previously said of the work: "It feels like the site is alive. It is a huge blessing that we have been able to have this work done, so that is can be used by the congregation and the community."
