TWO people have suffered serious injuries following a three car collision in Bury.

The incident happened in Heywood Street shortly before 9.30pm.

Firefighters cut free one person from their vehicle before they were taken to hospital.

Saul Hickey, green watch crew manager at Bury Fire Station, said: "An Audi A3 was heavily damaged and when we arrived we found a male on the road beside it, who was conscious and breathing.

"The driver was still trapped in the vehicle and we spent 40 minutes using cutting tools and a hydraulic ram to create a cavity as his legs were trapped under the dashboard which had buckled.

"Various techniques were used to free his legs and he was removed from the car on a spinal board and taken to hospital."

A crew from Whitefield fire station also attended the scene, along with a technical rescue unit, police and an ambulance.

The passenger found lying on the road received medical treatment.

The other two vehicles involved ion the collision suffered only minor damage.
