‘BRAZEN’ thieves sawed through a metal fence before stealing hundreds of pounds worth of cash and stock from a Bury business.

Tygas, which is based in Webb Street, off Crostons Road, has been targeted twice this month.

On the first occasion, shortly after 8.30pm on Friday, January 4, a silver Land Rover Discovery pulled up nearby, and two people got out.

They sliced through the fence before rolling steel cylinders through a yard and into the back of the car. They then stole about £100 in cash before fleeing.

And before the gas supply company could get the fence repaired, they were targeted again just five days later.

“The second time, there were three of them,” explained owner Martin Ashton.

“We had covered the fence with a van because we had not had it repaired yet, but they cut a hole three foot away with a saw.

“We had moved the cylinders on top of a stack of pallets about ten feet off the ground, but they hunted around and found them.”

Mr Ashton estimates that the thieves caused about £300 of damage, as well as stealing hundreds of pounds worth of stock.

“It is just annoying,” he said. “They are so brazen. On the second occasion, the premises on both sides were still open, and they were doing it in full view of cars coming down the main road.

“It is definitely the same people doing this.

“It takes a lot of sales to make up that money. We might find ourselves working for no profits for a week.

“We have since had someone secure the fence and put mesh in so it is more secure than it was, but there is not much you can do if they are going to cut through it with a saw.”

The thieves were caught on the Tygas’ CCTV cameras, and the footage has since been posted on social media in a bid to catch the perpetrators.

On the footage, one of the thieves appears to be wearing a white Canada Goose coat.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
