WHITLEY village's annual 10k run is set to be a sell-out this April and organisers are encouraging people to get fit and start training.

The race will take place on Sunday, April 14, beginning at 11am.

A spokesperson for Whitley village hall race committee said: "This is a beautiful rural road race that has the benefit of road closures throughout and passes through the stunning scenery in and around Whitley.

"The diversity of runners taking part is what makes this such a family friendly event with all age groups taking part in the 5k and the 10k, limited to 15 years and over due to UK Athletics rules.

"It is hoped this great event will be a magnet for those people that have made new year resolution to get fitter and need something to aim for.

"With approximately 12 weeks to go it provides enough time for them to work up to the 5k or 10k distances on offer."

There will be prizes for first, second and third place men, women and veterans as well as a medal for every finisher.

The Whitley fun run will also start on the same day and follows a 5k route for those wanting to run a shorter distance but still join in the fun.

The 2018 event was incredibly popular and this year race co-ordinator Peter Clayton is confident of another big turnout.

He said: "We are already busy planning the day to make sure this is the success we anticipate.

"Entries are available via Eventbrite and Run Britain websites which we hope makes the effort of entering much easier."

The main sponsors for the 2019 Whitley 10k are Lakeland Trucks Ltd and Schmitz CARGOBULL.

All money made from entry fees will be invested into supporting the upkeep of the village hall and community groups and activities.
