CORONATION Street killer Clayton Hibbs has been pictured looking bruised and battered as he films his dramatic return to the soap at a Radcliffe church.

Callum Harrison, who plays the killer, was pictured for the first time on set filming scenes at St Andrew's Church in St Andrew's View yesterday ahead of Clayton's dramatic return to the Cobbles - 18 months after stabbing Kylie Platt to death.

He was pictured in an oversized blue padded jacket while carrying a water bottle yesterday afternoon. It is believed the new scenes being shot on location see Clayton out of prison as he's allowed to attend the funeral of a friend.

The actor was pictured with a number of cuts over his cheek and forehead, suggesting he's not having the best time behind bars.

Clayton's mother Shona Ramsey, played by Julia Goulding, was pictured in a similar red coat for the shoot with Rev Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel Brocklebank.

Viewers last saw Clayton on screen when he murdered David Platt’s wife Kylie in 2016.

While nearby St Mary's Church, in Prestwich, has been the location of many a Coronation Street wedding and funeral, this will be a first for Grade II listed St Andrew's.

A churchgoer said: "It is just fantastic that we are having the church used for this purpose.

"We are excited to see St Andrew's on our screens in the near future."

St Andrew's has recently undergone £17,000 worth of work, to redecorate the archway, install a new platform, remove asbestos and carry out repairs to the chancel.

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod announced Clayton's return storyline last month, confirming that his reappearance would cause problems for Shona's relationship with David (Jack P Shepherd).

MacLeod explained: "We've got a story where Clayton will rear his ugly, criminal head. He throws a massive spanner in the works for David and he tries to embroil Shona in a plot to smuggle drugs into prison.

"It becomes a story about Shona and her son and throws into question David and Shona's relationship. Clayton has been locked up and it provides the biggest challenge to David and Shona's relationship since the Josh story."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
