A SPORTS taster day for visually impaired youngsters will take place in Padgate next month.

The Cheshire Cobras Visually Impaired Cricket Club will host the free event at Padgate Academy from 10.15am to 12.30pm on Saturday, February 2, in conjunctions with PWR Fitness and the Cheshire Cricket Board.

Intended for ages seven to 18, the taster day will include sports such as cricket, basketball and handball.

Cricket club captain Dave Ellingham, who is leading coaching sessions, said: "We've run a few of these 'have a go' days now and they're always great fun.

"The feedback from the young people and their families has been really positive.

"We make sure that these sessions are held in an enjoyable, encouraging, safe and friendly environment.

"If the young people want to bring a friend or a member of the family with them, then they are welcome to do that.

"We're always on the lookout for new players to join our cricket team, so anyone who’s interested or wants to just have a chat about what we do – whether they attend the taster day or not – can get in touch.

"We'd like to thank the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All programme for funding these sessions.

"It can be difficult for visually impaired young people to get involved in sport, which is why these 'have a go' days are so important."
