SLEET is set to fall in Bury today following the coldest night of the year across the country

A Met Office warning for ice, sleet and snow is still in place for North West today.

And while Bury is not in the yellow warning zone for snow today, forecasters say wintry showers and flurries could still fall across hills in Greater Manchester.

There is currently a chance of sleet from 11am until 2pm.

The Met Office have warned of possible disruption on the roads and railway networks.

The long range forecast also predicts further snow next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, when temperatures could hit -4C.

This week meteorologist with the Met Office Marco Petagna said: "Things are turning colder, but it is just more typical winter conditions.

"It has been so mild this winter that it will be a bit of a shock to the system even though temperatures will be average for this time of year or just below.

"It's nothing unusual, but it's the first wintry weather that some parts of the UK have seen for a while."

Last night was the coldest of the winter so far across the UK as temperatures plunged to as low as -10.7C (12.7F).

The double-digit low was recorded by the Met Office at Aboyne in Aberdeenshire, beating the previous mark of -10.5C (13.1F) recorded on January 3 in Braemar.

SO WHEN WILL IT SNOW IN BURY?

Snow is currently forecast for Tuesday, January 22.

Wintry showers are expected to fall between 6am and 11am, with temperatures feeling like OC.
