THE main focus in Sunday’s BSF Over-35s Football League programme was on the second round of the Sam Ashworth Trophy.

Division One bottom side Salford Waggon’s match was a delayed first-round game against Division Four high-flyers Heaton Casuals.

And it turned out to be quite a struggle as Heaton finally triumphed 4-3 and now face Old Bolts in the next round.

Robert Faiyaz, Simon Parkes and Obirchina Ezah scored the home team's goals, but a Clint McLoughlin brace and one each for Kieron Seals and Damien Smith saw Heaton through.

Salford Victoria had no trouble as they beat Turton 5-1 thanks to a Mark Bailey hat-trick plus contributions by Carl O’Malley and Allan Houghton, and the goal against them was an own goal.

In an all-First Division game, Daz Smith netted a hat-trick and Paul Sykes scored one for Rochdale Sports, but a Leon Hamilton double for Bar Lane Bowling Club kept them in the game.

Division Two side Radcliffe Town Vets saw off Division Three leaders Radcliffe Old Boys B with goals from Paul Hoey, Bren Kimmins and Phil Edgehill. Paul Bentley scored one for Old Boys.

Division One leaders Radcliffe Old Boys A had a comfortable 4-1 win at Queen Lizzy, for whom Neil Ross scored. Lee Cold Ridge, Marc Collins and a Carl Lomax double saw Radcliffe through.

Noel Coleman and Paul Holly scored for Division Four side PF Bury but they were no match for Barrhill of the top flight. Barry Massey scored four while Daniel Gilmore and Anthony Lawlor made is six for the visitors.

Royal Farnworth Vets and AFC Dobbies B are mid-table in Divisions Three and Two, respectively, but the team from the lower division won the day as Mark Drew scored a brace and Lee Marks one, while Michael Lonsdale and Andy Benjamin replied for Dobbies B.

In rearranged league games, Radcliffe Vets A kept up the pressure at the top of Division One with a 7-5 win at AFC Dobbies A.

Mark Longshaw scored four and Andrew Buckley one for Dobbies, but their efforts were to no avail as a Tommy Dawson hat-trick plus goals by Mark Westhead, Paul Broome and Mark Maffia saw Radcliffe to victory.

The Division Two match between Home Guard Failsworth and Old Bolts was switched to Old Bolts who picked up all three points thanks to two goals for Ryan Dean and one each for Paul Berry, Ashley Walsh and Andy Blackburn.

The Division Three match between Moss Bank and bottom side Radcliffe Vets B went to form with Moss Bank winning 3-0 thanks to a Phil Barrow double and an Eddie Bragg goal.

In Division Four, Deans Youth made it tough for visitors Atherton Town with Mark Oldham scoring, but Neil Challener and Mark Shannon were on hand to earn Atherton three points.
