AUDIENCES took a trip to the French Riviera with Bolton Operatic Society Trust's production of The Boy Friend.

The musical marked Julie Andrews' America stage debut and undoubtedly made stars of the cast in the local production in January 1989, when it opened at The Albert Halls in Bolton.

Set during the roaring twenties, The Boy Friend, a musical by Sandy Wilson, is a comic pastiche of 1920s shows.

Set against the backdrop of the French Riveria, the romantic spoof of the 1920s musical comedies tells the story of English heiress, Polly, who is longing for a boyfriend.

Polly's father convinced men, who are not wealthy, is after her money, forbids her to engage any potential suitors.

But love finds a way and cue a happy ending.
