ST Paul's Astley Bridge AODS's next production promises to deliver plenty of laughs.

The theatre company is bringing Michael Cooney's fast paced British farce Cash on Delivery.

Based around a con artist who has duped the welfare authorities for years by claiming every type of benefit for the innumerable people he says lives at his address, the hilarious comedy is full of mistaken identities — and a con which finally spirals out of control.

The scam nets him tens of thousands tax free and just when he decides to kill off many of the imaginary dole recipients because matters are getting a bit too risky, welfare investigators show up.

Some make inquiries about what is going on while others offer additional benefits for which he has not yet applied!

Paul Cohen is once again in the director's chair and says if rehearsals are anything to go by, the audience really will be in stitches.

"Rehearsals are going really well — there were a lot of laughs in the first few rehearsals and the cast are really enjoying it," said Paul, "It is a great comedy which is perfect for January.

"We have created a set of doors as the set which are used to great effect, in this fast paced farce, with people coming and going out of the doors".

The production stars a number of well-known faces including award-winning actress Jennie Peters, who works in the DSS.

And said Paul, "as with all farces there are a lot of laughs — and everything is resolved in the end".

Cash on Delivery opens at St Paul's CE School in Newnham Street, Astley Bridge, on February 21 and runs until the 23.
