PLANS have been submitted to build 35 homes in Ramsbottom.

Developers Eccleston Homes have drawn up the plans for the homes on land between Peel Brow and Bury New Road.

The development would comprise a range of three, four and five bedroom homes with associated roads, parking and gardens.

If approved, access to the site, which is next to the M66, would be via an existing public right of way from Bury New Road.

In 2016, Bury Council granted the Florence Nuttall Trust outline planning permission to build 50 homes on the site.

Angry neighbours branded the decision a “disgrace” and complained that the area is designated as protected open land and that any new housing estate would lead to traffic chaos in Ramsbottom.

More than 25 objections have been lodged against the latest plans, most of which are from residents living nearby.

Michelle King, who lives in Bury New Road, said: "The roads in Ramsbottom are already overloaded; to place a housing development with access so close to traffic lights at the top of a steep hill is sheer folly.

"This is the only way to and from work for a great many local residents - it's already challenging and I object most strongly to anything that will make the situation worse. "It's all very well building new houses, but what are you going to do about the infrastructure? If nothing can be done about it, then you should not even be considering building in such a ridiculous location.

"Are you really going to allow heavily congested roads to become even more unbearable for the people who have the misfortune to have to use them?"
