PLANS for a new nursery near Bury Town Hall has been refused planning permission.

The council decided the size of the site is inadequate to accommodate the "high-quality childcare facilities" proposed.

It also noted that the proposed use would result in unacceptable levels of noise and disturbance for neighbours.

The decision notice said it "would result in over development and unacceptable levels of intensification of the site".

An application for a day nursery in a terraced house in Knowsley Street was submitted late last year.

The two-storey building with a loft space is located between private dwellings and business premises of various types.

If approved, it would have accommodated a maximum of 34 children, including babies, toddler and pre-school age, with 12 members of staff.

The application was refused by planning officers on Monday.
