FIRE crews from three stations attended a blaze at Bury tip this morning.
The fire at the Viridor recycling and processing site on Fenrnhill Industrial Estate took crews from Bury, Whitefield and Heywood fire stations three hours to deal with.
Bury watch manager Steve Urmston said: "We received a call at approximately 9.20am. It was a substantial fire with quite a large smoke plume.
"Four hoses were used and seven firefighters wore breathing apparatus.
"The fire was in a paper and card bay but it spread to a household waste bay too.
"We used an excavator to turn it all over so that we could wet it thoroughly."
The cause of the fire is unknown and although the tip remained open to the public, the rear of the site was closed off.
