A COMMUNITY group will hold a launch event to celebrate the official opening of its centre.

Bury 2gether, a forum for parents and carers of children with special educational needs, has organised a special ceremony at Brandlesholme Community Centre.

The centre, the former Brandlesholme Library in Brandlesholme Road, is shared between Bury 2gether and Brandlesholme People’s Voice.

Rhiannon Walton said: “We are celebrating the opening of our brand new facilities. We have a cohort of about 6,000 families across Bury who require support.”

Bury Council has funded a new disabled toilet to make the centre wheelchair accessible. The council has also funded Max Cards for families — a discount card.

Council leader Rishi Shori will cut the ribbon to open the centre at 2pm this Friday. Bury North MP, James Frith, councillors and other special guests are also due to attend.

Cllr Shori said: "It is a pleasure to support Bury2gether which does so much to advocate for children with additional needs and their families.

"They are making excellent use of a former library building and our funding of the Max cards will enable more of them to enjoy days out without having to worry too much about the cost.

"I’m looking forward to meeting them on Friday at the official launch.”

Between 1pm and 3pm, there will be face painting, balloon modelling, a visit from Ranger Rob’s Animal Experience and a buffet.
