A British Muslim Award to Imam Muhammad Asim has been rescinded organisers have announced.
The awards were held to recognise a wide range of achievements from outstanding Muslim individuals across the UK in Bradford.
Imam Asim was announced as a winner of 'Religious Advocate of the Year'.
A statement by British Muslim Awards read, "It has come to our attention that a winner from last night’s British Muslim Awards 2019 stepped down from their position.
"With this mind we are re-selecting our winner for Religious Advocate of the Year.
"Religious Advocate of the Year for the British Muslim Awards 2019 is Mohammed Roziur Rahman from The Muslim Initiative.
"The British Muslim Awards 2019 were originally scheduled for 30th January 2019, and prior to this date is when the majority of our supporting evidence was processed and votes counted.
"The initial winner for this category was selected based on this due diligence.
"The Oceanic Consulting Team sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or upset caused and would like to thank you for your patience is helping us rectify the situation. Updated press releases will follow shortly."
