A THIEF who stole railway sleepers worth £210 from Jewsons builders’ merchants has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Dean Hodson, aged 32, of Foxglove Drive, Bury, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on October 16 last year.

He was also ordered to pay £70 in compensation and £105 in costs and charges.

A WOMAN who failed to provide police with the identity of a Ford Fiesta driver has been fined £660 by Bolton magistrates.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court the case against Helen James, aged 32, of Halls Close, Radcliffe, was proved in her absence. She was also ordered to pay £216 in costs and charges and six ponts were added to her driving licence.

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to be electronically tagged and subject to a 7pm to 7am curfew for six weeks.

Carl Allan, aged 40, of Parsonage Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to sending false message for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety on February 11 and 12and using threatening behaviour towards a police officer. He was also ordered to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £170 in costs and charges.

A MAN who harassed a woman by visiting her home and sending her texts, letters and postcards has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months. Brian Jones, aged 52, of Chesham Fold Road, Bury, pleaded guilty to committing the offence between October last year and February 13.

He was ordered to have treatment for alcohol addiction for six months and must participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities.

He was also told he must pay £100 in compensation and £200 in costs and charges. A restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim.

A MAN has been bound over to keep the peace for six months or forfeit £100. At Manchester Magistrates' Court Owen Lawrence, aged 39, of Edgar Street, Ramsbottom, admitted breaching the peace on February 14.

A RADCLIFFE teenager has been referred to the youth offender panel for three months after he admitted burgling Little Lever Sports Centre and stealing drinks and confectionery on March 25.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also ordered to pay £10 in compensation plus£105 in costs and charges.

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a motorist to do 80 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to drink driving in a Suzuki car at Birch Services and assaulting a woman on January 10.

Pawal Gawlik, aged 31, of New Cateaton, Bury, was also ordered to have treatment for alcohol addition and he was banned from holding a licence for 18 months.
