PUPILS at a Whitefield school were helped in their celebration of reading and literature as part of World Book Day today, when they received a bundle of new books for their library.

The books were donated to Elms Bank Primary School, in Ripon Avenue, by Morrisons, and were presented by Rochelle Gardner a community champion at the supermarket's store in Whitefield.

She said: “I'm delighted to be donating these new books to a local school. There’s a great selection and I hope that every pupil will be able to find a story they will enjoy.”

Th donation was made as part of a national campaign, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, which has seen Morrisons stores around the country handover more than 7,300 new books to hundreds of schools.

Jonathan Douglas, director of the National Literacy Trust, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Morrisons to bring the gift of reading by donating brand new books to primary schools throughout the UK.”
