A FORMER baker - convicted of molesting two girls in East Lancashire - has now been found guilty of further abuse charges in Jersey dating back 30 years.

Robert Carrel, then living in Belgrave Road, Colne, was convicted of rape and a number of child indecency offences in 2010, and was jailed for 12 years.

Then in his mid-50s, he was said to have told a confused seven-year-old girl to copy the on-screen actions of a film porn star, in return for sweets, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Another girl, aged 11, was also forced to perform sex acts on Carrel, the court was told.

While on remand for the offence he suffered a massive heart attack and had to undergo a quadruple bypass operation

When he was jailed by Judge Jonathan Gibson he was reported to have said: “I’m not guilty - you’re a dead judge.”

An appeal was later lodged but law lords ruled that his sentence could not be considered “manifestly excessive”.

Now Carrel is facing another spell behind bars after being found guilty of three offences of procuring an act of gross indecency and one charge of indecent assault at the Royal Court in Jersey.

Carrel, now aged 63, was alleged to have took his victim, then aged under 10, to his flat and forced her to touch him sexually. In return he gave her sweets and presents.

Giving evidence at trial, the victim said: “At first I think he lured me in with a false sense of security. I trusted him.

“At the time I thought he cared about me and I didn’t understand what was going on. I wanted to believe he did care.

“He would take me to the bathroom. He used to make me do things and tell me I was a good girl and I would get rewarded with presents and sweets.”

She remembered receiving a ‘teddy bear with a red love heart’ on one occasion.

She added: “My life was ruined from that. I wasn’t safe anymore. He took my innocence.”

One of the girls Carrel abused in East Lancashire also gave evidence during the Jersey trial.

Crown Advocate Richard Pedley told the court: “What are the chances that two girls who have never met, and who live in different jurisdictions, would independently come up with the same story.”

Upon his latest conviction, Carrel shouted at jurors and had to be forcibly removed from the dock by security officers. He will be sentenced later.
