THIS weeks' delve into The Bolton News picture archives during football's international break has unearthed this picture of Blackrod youngsters, who were looking to re-enact England's 1966 World Cup win, at Blackrod Carnival that same year.

The information accompanying the picture, which was published again in July 1998, says the youngsters were mainly from the Green Barn area and represented the winning team at the carnival.

But that is all we know.

Do you recall the day or the carnival competition?

Do you recognise any of the faces in the line-up or are you one of those youngsters?

THE second picture was included in the sporting nostalgia section on February 21 and features a Blackrod Church School team from March 1992.

The information accompanying the picture said the team made it a double success in the Horwich and Blackrod junior schools’ five-a-side competition when two sides from the school reached the final without conceding a goal.

Reader Kim Bell got in touch and said: "This was a photo taken at Horwich Leisure Centre when Blackrod A and B team met in the final.

"My son, Philip, is holding the winners' cup.

"He went on to play for Bolton Wanderers academy until he got injured and had to retire at the age of 18.

"The team is, back from left, Dale Cross, Gary Haydock, Stuart Whittle, Mark Ashton, Stuart Sellers, Craig Aldred; front, Adam Coats, Steven Ashworth, Stephan Entwistle, Philip Bell and Gary Atherton."
