A RENOWNED singer, dancer and performer will accompany a choir as they celebrate their platinum jubilee.

Margaret McDonald, who is vice-president of Ramsbottom Choral Society and Concert Orchestra, will join members of the long-standing group for a celebration concert tomorrow.

The mezzo-soprano, who sings regularly in major venues and cathedrals across the UK and abroad, said she is "delighted" to be singing with the society.

She will be introduced to the stage for a solo performance by Richard Youngman. Sam Jackson will also deliver a solo, while orchestra leader will be Julie Proctor and Allan Beedie will play the organ.

Margaret, who is known widely as Maggie McDonald, is expected to take to the stage wearing a special platinum grey and silver dress for the anniversary occasion.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event at Bolton Road Methodist Church, which will future a range of music performed by the society since its formation.

The society will welcome back past members of both the choir and orchestra for the concert, which will be conducted by the musical director Barry Sugden.

The programme for the evening will include items by Andantino Ladies, a small choir which is part of the choral society. The concert will open with Vivaldi's Gloria and conclude with the famous Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah.

The concert will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets, at £10, are available from Mr Sugden on 0161 761 2985 or via the website www. rcsco.org.
