A MAN suffered a chest wound after a thug forced his way into a home in the early hours of the morning and demanded money.

The incident happened in Albert Road, Prestwich, at around 2.20am this morning.

The attacker demanded cash from the home's occupants before a "struggle" ensued with the victim — a man in his 30s — who sustained a small cut wound to his chest.

In a post on Facebook a neighbour described the incident as "truly shocking", adding: "Break in on Albert Avenue near Lidl last night, father of four stabbed in chest, thankfully superficial wound and he has been discharged from hospital. Anyone in that area with CCTV, was around 2.15am."

Following the attempted robbery police were called to the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

The offender is described as white, 35 to 50 years old, of medium build, with dark short hair and pale round face, and was wearing a dark cardigan.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
