BOLTON boxer Cindy Ngamna goes in search of title glory at today's England Boxing National Amateur Championship finals day in Manchester.

The 20-year-old, who trains at Bolton Lads and Girls Club, has already won numerous amateur titles and will take on Salisbury’s Carly Ogogo in the final in the under 81kg weight class.

And her trainer, Nick Rayner, believes the Halliwell boxer has the ability to win the ABA crown this weekend.

He told The Bolton News: "Cindy came to the club as a shy 16-year-old from a massive family but she has worked hard to grow as a person and a boxer.

"She will admit she was overweight when she joined up but is now around the 76kg mark and has won all six fights she has had, including the national development final last year.

"It is great for the club as well to have a fighter in the final as the boxing gets back on its feet at Bolton Lads and Girls.

"Cindy is a great representative for us and she already helps out coaching others as well."

Ngamna is one of two local fighters who have qualified for finals day at Manchester Central, with Bury ABC's Ibrahim Nadim, also aged 20, taking on Londoner John O'Meara in his final at 52-56kg.

The finals day offers amateur boxers the chance to showcase their skills and establish themselves as the best in the country in their weight divisions.

Former winners of the tournament who have gone on to major success in the professional ranks include famous names like Henry Cooper, Frank Bruno, Nigel Benn, Carl Froch, Tony Bellew, Nicola Adams, Tyson Fury, Stacey Copeland, George Groves and Anthony Joshua to name but a few - an illustrious list Ngamna and Nadim are looking to join.

Matt Halfpenny, communications manager for England Boxing, said: "Winning the England Boxing National Amateur Championships is the pinnacle for English amateur boxers.

"Looking at those boxers who have made it through to this stage, there promises to be some very exciting bouts and a great atmosphere at what is a historic venue in a city that has a rich boxing tradition.”

The England Boxing National Amateur Championships 2019 will begin at 2pm (1pm doors). Tickets are available to buy on the day.

Tickets are priced at £25 adults, £15 concessions (65-plus) and £10 children (six to 15-year-olds), with under-fives free.
