TEMPORARY traffic lights have been set up on Magdalen Bridge, impacting on traffic across the city centre.
Vehicles are queueing to The Plain roundabout and beyond into St Clements and Iffley Road due to the hold-ups.
The lights are allowing work to take place on the road surface of the historic bridge.
It is understood the work is looking at what has caused the road surface to subside in places.
Testing is being carried out and workers were seen digging holes in order to take away samples.
The problems are being made worse by the long running roadworks in St Aldates which have narrowed the carriageway, making it difficult for buses to get past eachother.
And workers have also been cutting down a tree in Longwall Street for much of this afternoon.
Oxford Direct Services said the roadworks are county-council led and are expected to end on Thursday.
