TWO schoolchildren have a spring in their step after winning the Bury Times’ Design an Egg competition.

Erin Hardie, aged nine, and Lewis Olsen, aged seven, designed two colourful creations to be crowned this year’s winners out of dozens of entries.

We asked children at schools across the borough to come up with their own unique Easter Eggs by drawing on and colouring in a blank egg template.

The winners were rewarded with their designs being made into huge milk chocolate eggs by Whitefield-based chocolatiers Slattery.

Erin, who is a year four pupil at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Radcliffe, came out on top in eight-to-11 category with her seasonal design.

She said: “When I found out I had won I was so excited and did a big scream.

“I wanted to include lots of patterns and things to do with Easter.

“We had seen loads of daffodils growing so I decided to draw those too.”

The youngster has even promised to share the egg with her five-year-old sister Neve.

Meanwhile, Lewis, who also attends the same school, said: “The design took me ages to do.”

He follows in the footsteps of his four-year-old sister Kacie-Leigh, who won the competition last year.

Mum Kelly, added: “He really wanted to win after seeing his sister win last year.”

The youngster said he planed to celebrate his win by spending the remainder of his Easter break sleeping and playing on his Xbox.
