The Labour Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has by his recent comments on Donald Trump's forthcoming state visit merely served to encourage those who wish to mount mass protests against his visit.

Asad Rehman of Stop Trump Coalition and Sabby Dhalu of Stand Up To Trump expect more than the 250,000 people who turned up last time to disrupt the visit.

The Mayor’s views have support from many in the Labour party a view including Emily Thornberry, Shadow Foreign secretary and MP David Lammy.

While many people do not favour Donald Trump and his manner and comments nevertheless, he will be here representing the United States of America in his office as President, this country’s most important ally.

Not only will he be here on a state visit but he will be here to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the sacrifice of so many who fought to preserve freedom in this country.

That the Labour party should take this stance is disappointing and tarnishes, in my view, the memory, depending on your age, of the sacrifices made by our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents in the last war.
