FIND out how medical research helps to make a difference to people's lives.

During a free talk at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, residents will be given an insight into the ways that research has, and is, helping to improve patient diagnosis, care and treatment.

One of the speakers will be Professor Jimmy Limdi, a consultant gastroenterologist, who has an international reputation for his research to help improve the lives of people with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Research nurse Dawn Johnstone will talk about her involvement in one specific trial and how the results from this trial have ultimately led to better treatments for patients with prostate cancer.

Professor Steve Woby, Director of Research Operations for The Northern Care Alliance Group, will explain how research is an everyday part of every NHS speciality and why he wants to see more patients involved.

The talk will take place in the auditorium at Fairfield General Hospital’s Education Centre, between 2-3pm, on Tuesday, May 21.
