SKIPPER Cameron Murray is targeting league success this season after a winning start against Westhoughton on the opening weekend in the Premiership.

The Springfield Road outfit finished fourth last time around but won the Hamer Cup, beating Farnworth in the final at Westhoughton by six wickets.

They come up against the same opposition tomorrow in the second round of league matches but after a five-run home win against the Howfeners last weekend, Murray is confident of overcoming another stern test.

He said: “It was a good start against Westhoughton in what was a close game.

“We know it will be tough again at Farnworth and I believe they are possibly favourites for the title.

“But hopefully we can be up there as well – we believe we have the ability and players to challenge for the league as long as possible.”

Murray says there has been little in the way of personnel changes over the winter, though Dave Mather and Jack Berry left to join Farnworth Socuial Circle and Horwich RMI, respectively.

To offset those departures, Adeel Baig has arrived from Atherton, while Joshua Roscoe has mob=ved from Social Circle.

Add to that a handful promoted from the second XI and Murray hopes they have the right blend in the squad as they look to build the club.

After tomorrow’s league trip to Farnworth, Kearsley are on the road again on Sunday when they visit GMCL side Egerton in the first round of the Lancashire Knockout.

And while it is another Bolton-based side, Murray admits he knows very little about Egerton.

He added: “One thing I do know is that Egerton must be a decent team to be playing in the top division in the Greater Manchester League.

“it will be a good test for us to play a team from a different league and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves because we want to win more silverware this year.”
