WITH summer just around the corner, St Vincent's Dramatic Society is bringing back memories of traditional British caravanning holidays, which all of us have enjoyed at one time or another .

The company is staging Peter Gordon's comedy Third Week in August at the end of the month.

The play tells the story of Sue, who decides to try and get away from everybody on a solo caravan holiday — yet little does she realise that she’s booked into the caravan site from hell!

She is soon taken under the wing of expert but inadequate caravanner Neville — when he’s not engaged in battle with his wife or trying to cope with his recently separated sister-in-law.

Matters become complicated with the arrival of the enthusiastic Tony and his sceptical girlfriend Jenny, who has joined him against her better judgement.

In an effort to boost ‘camp spirit’, Neville decides that a communal barbecue is the order of the day . . . then things really start to hot up!

Howard Clare, chairman St Vincent's Dramatic Society, said: "Rehearsals are now in there final stages and we are looking forward to putting on our play."

The plays comes as the society received eight nominations in the NODA Area 5 awards evening at the Last Drop in February.

Said Mr Clare: "We had one nomination for the best set. The play was for a Murder is Announced by Agatha Christie.

"We also had Debbie Eustice who was also nominate for her part as Mitzie

"In Running Riot we had seven nominations Dennis Jordan, Tricia Shorten, Amber Hughes Maureen Clare, Owen Riley and Bert Halliday. Keith Hindley won the award for best male actor in a drama.

Owen Riley and Bert have constructed 42 sets. Owen is 90 years old in September and Bert his apprentice is 77 years old. We were delighted when they got the cup for the best set. It just goes to show that you are never to old to achieve your goal."
