BOLTON author Professor Paul Salveson has marked the 200th anniversary of the great American poet Walt Whitman's birth by launching a new edition of his book.
The story of Bolton’s links to Whitman was first researched by Prof Salveson in the early 1980s. A short book Loving Comrades – Lancashire’s Links to Walt Whitman – was published in 1984. It has gone through several editions and the fourth, re-titled With Walt Whitman in Bolton – spirituality, sex and socialism in a Northern Mill-Town, has just been published as a special bi-centennial edition. It is lavishly illustrated with a new preface.
Prof Salveson, who lives in Harper's Lane, said: “There are lots of events taking place in and around Bolton during this month and I’m glad to be able to have a new edition of the book available.”
To buy a copy of the book, which costs £10 including postage and packing, please write to Prof Salveson at 109 Harper’s Lane, Bolton BL1 6HU. Cheques should made payable to 'Paul Salveson'.
