Sir - In recent days we have heard much in the media about the D Day landings on the beaches of Normandy. This was truly a historic event. However a degree of amnesia seems to have crept in.

The landings were described as the start of the liberation of Europe.

No mention has been made of the Soviet Union’s Red Army, generally credited as liberating Europe.

Have they been air brushed out of history?
